Not long ago, I wrote about how the Middle East would be fundamentally restructured, changing its geographic and geopolitical configuration. It sounds formal, but in reality, this process will be harsh. And we are already seeing it. Indeed, events will affect almost the entire Middle Eastern region.
The beginning of the formation of exotic regional alliances in the middle of 2026 was already mentioned in the Confirmation of August 15, 2026.
As a reminder, a three-way agreement on joint defense was signed on August 7, 2026, in Mecca between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, already known as the Mecca Defense Agreement. The reason for signing was the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran, as well as Israel's aggressive involvement in this conflict.
But this 'expansion' process of the alliance is developing actively.
Bangladesh is considering the possibility of joining the defense agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. This was reported by the country's Prime Minister's advisor Muhammad Kabir on August 22, 2026.
According to Kabir, Dhaka is ready to consider participation in an economic or defense alliance, taking into account national interests and the changing international situation. The main factors in making this decision will be the country's economic interests and security issues.
In late August 2026, Iran received an invitation to join the 'Meccan Agreement' on collective defense, signed between Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan. This was reported by Mehdi Rahimi, head of the Iranian Parliament's information agency, to the Arab television channel Al Mayadeen. He stated that the issue of joining the alliance is under consideration.
As of the end of August 2026, Egypt is still studying the possibility of joining the defensive agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. This was stated by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan.
Saudi Arabia launched the institutional and operational activation of a multinational maritime defense alliance in the Red Sea, bringing together 15 countries, at the end of August 2026. As the American publication The National Interest writes, the formation of this coalition signals the region's states' desire to ensure their security independently and reduce their reliance on the United States.
