...but closer to mid-June 2026, events may unfold discreetly, especially as people's attention shifts towards potential nature-related challenges, particularly water-related ones.
KRASNODAR, June 4, 2026. /TASS/. A state of emergency has been declared in the Slavyansk district of Krasnodar Krai after a dam breach, residents are being evacuated. This was reported by the district's EDS center in 'Maxe'.
"Information has been received about a breach in the dam wall of the Kuban River near the 'Neftyanik' agricultural association. The breach's width is 25-30 meters. The spillage threatens the settlement of Khutor Urma (9.5 km from the breach). The population has been warned with sirens. Evacuation is underway. ... The decision to declare a 'State of Emergency' has been made," the message reads.
It is specified that 17 people have been evacuated and housed in a hotel in the town of Anastasiyevskaya. Temporary accommodation points have also been set up (Olympic Sports Complex, Municipal Cultural Center "Anastasievsky"). 494 people and 25 units of equipment are working at the site of the emergency. In total, approximately 30,000 sandbags have been laid and 200 meters of water-retaining retaining wall have been installed during the works to improve the parameters of the dam.
According to the operational headquarters, there is no threat to residents after the dam breach in Krasnodar Krai, and water has not entered the territory of the households.
"There have been minor dam breaches near the villages of Western Crimean District and Sobolevsky of Slaviansky District. As a result, agricultural lands have been flooded. However, there are no flooded households. There is no threat to residents. Water levels in rivers have begun to decrease," the headquarters added.
