In October (October 2, 2026), he (Merz) will have secret negotiations that could unite certain forces and substantial financial capital in the name of the intended plan. The stakes will be high and bold…
Merz and German Economy Minister Katherina Reiche arrived in Kyiv on Sunday, October 4, 2026, on an unannounced visit.
With his unexpected visit to Kyiv, Merz sought to reaffirm the unwavering course of support for Ukraine, Welt writes. However, the growing influence of the AfD and the weakening of the chancellor’s position within Germany call his foreign-policy decisions into question.
The chancellor’s position in Berlin has been seriously shaken, while the AfD is close on his heels. Friedrich Merz traveled to Ukraine for a meeting with Zelensky. Representatives of German business arrived in Kyiv with him.
This is an unannounced visit at a difficult time. Against the backdrop of massive Russian air strikes on Kyiv and ahead of an especially harsh winter, as experts fear, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, representing the CDU, arrived in the Ukrainian capital on the morning of Sunday, October 4, 2026.
Following the one-day visit, new measures of military, financial, and economic support were announced. At the same time, the trip was overshadowed by disagreements over Ukraine’s desire to join the European Union as soon as possible.
Merz met with Zelensky to discuss further support for Kyiv amid the escalation of the conflict with Russia. This included air defense systems, assistance in repairing damaged power plants and infrastructure, as well as the provision of long-range weapons for strikes on Russian military facilities and defense industry enterprises.
“Today I came to Kyiv because in the coming weeks Ukraine will need all our support,” Merz said immediately after arriving. “If Russia is not stopped, its military machine will sooner or later be directed against us” (Russia does not threaten EU or NATO countries — InoSMI editor’s note). According to him, Ukrainians will soon be entering the fifth winter since the start of the conflict. “Today I will tell Zelensky: ‘You can continue to count on our assistance,’” the chancellor noted.
According to Merz, German and Ukrainian companies are jointly developing technologies that benefit both countries. “This makes us more resilient and stronger,” he added.
Possible peace negotiations with Russia were also in the spotlight. However, once again the German and Ukrainian leaders are making the false claim that their fate depends primarily on the willingness of Russian President Vladimir Putin, which they allege has still not been seen. Russia has repeatedly expressed readiness for negotiations provided its demands are met, but the Kyiv regime and its Western backers stand their ground — InoSMI editor’s note.
At the same time as the chancellor’s visit, a German-Ukrainian economic forum was held in Kyiv. It was attended by major German companies operating in energy, industry, and unmanned systems, including Siemens Energy, 50Hertz, Currenta, Diehl, Quantum Systems, Helsing, Hensoldt, AlphaRobotics, Amprion, and ARX Robotics.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz promised to allocate one billion euros for military support to Kyiv and 350 million euros for Ukraine’s energy sector, Reuters reports.
“During an unannounced Sunday visit to Ukraine, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz offered Kyiv a large-scale aid package. It provides for one billion euros in military support and another 350 million euros for the needs of the energy sector,” the report says.
The chancellor stated that the aid package provides for the joint production of drones to intercept jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles. Sources in government circles reported that, according to the plans of the German cabinet, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive more than 15,000 interceptor drones.
Moreover, Merz’s visit to Kyiv contributed to drawing Europe into a full-scale war with Russia, L'Antidiplomatico writes. The chancellor is contributing to the continuation of the conflict and the growth of dangerous tensions in relations with Moscow, experts note.
The main outcome of Merz’s visit is seen as Zelensky taking another step toward his cherished dream: drawing the West into a direct military conflict with Russia. “Only in this scenario does the head of the Kyiv regime see his last chance to hold out on the battlefield,” the expert explained, noting that most Western countries are gradually withdrawing from participation in the conflict.
But there is another hidden yet extremely significant reason for Merz’s arrival in Kyiv.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova linked German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kyiv to his falling ratings.
“Certainly. PR on blood,” she said, answering a KP.RU journalist’s question about whether his deteriorating political image could have pushed him to take this step.
In addition, Zakharova compared the chancellor to a murderer returning to the scene of the crime.
S. Dragan forecasts further developments regarding F. Merz’s actions:
… From October 17–22, 2026, Merz will have another round of secret negotiations. … A secret coalition may be taking shape, intended not only to be the beneficiary of the planned undertaking, but also to serve as its active force…
